HTMA - Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis

with Shannon McKirdy, Registered Holistic Nutritionist, RHN

A non-invasive, affordable way to understand your mineral balance and cellular health.

What Is an HTMA?

A Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) is a valuable, inexpensive, and non-invasive screening tool that measures whether your body has adequate levels of essential minerals. It also identifies important mineral ratios and detects heavy metals that may be accumulating—or detoxing—from your system.

This deeper look at your mineral blueprint helps:

  • Predict potential health concerns
  • Validate symptoms you may already be experiencing
  • Create a personalized healing plan designed specifically for your physiology

HTMA vs. Blood Tests

Blood tests show what’s happening right now, while an HTMA reflects your body’s mineral activity over the past 3–4 months. Because minerals and heavy metals accumulate in tissues—not in blood—HTMA often reveals patterns and imbalances long before they appear in bloodwork.

HTMA can help identify:

  • Mineral storage levels
  • Metabolic patterns
  • Stress responses
  • Toxic heavy metal exposure

Both tests are useful, but together they offer the most complete picture of your health.

Why Minerals Matter

Minerals run the body at the cellular level. They are essential for energy production, hormone balance, detoxification, digestion, immune function, and thousands of enzymatic reactions happening every single day.

Mineral balance is essential for:

  • Energy production
  • Bone and teeth structure
  • Fluid and electrolyte balance
  • Hormone support (thyroid, cortisol, estrogen, progesterone, and more)
  • Oxygen transport (iron)
  • Immune health (zinc, copper)
  • DNA replication + cell renewal
  • Liver detoxification
  • Nerve and muscle function (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium)
  • Bile + stomach acid production
    …and so much more.

Minerals & Heavy Metals

Proper mineral levels help prevent heavy metals from binding in the body.
For example: Calcium displaces lead. When calcium is low, lead can settle into bone tissue.

HTMA measures heavy metals such as:

  • Mercury
  • Lead
  • Cadmium
  • Arseni
  • Aluminum

Is an HTMA Right for You?

HTMA is suitable for anyone at any stage of life, whether you’re experiencing symptoms or simply want a proactive look at your cellular health.

Common reasons people choose HTMA:

  • Anxiety or depression
  • Fatigue or low energy
  • Digestive issues
  • Frequent illness
  • Irregular cycles or infertility
  • Eczema or skin concerns
  • Curiosity about mineral status and long-term wellness

You’ll also complete an in-depth nutrition and health questionnaire so your personalized plan addresses your unique needs with clarity and precision.
